He was born in May of 1860 He said in Guntersville, Marshall County Alabama. He married my great grandmother Catherine Key in 1885 I'll check this out for sure. If you are researching Sims in Alabama or elsewhere please join me here.

Patricia, I believe the parents of Leonard Sims that is in Marshall Co., AL are Reddick P. Sims and Sarah Ann Stansell. They were married in Newton Co., GA Aug. 5, 1845, in the DeKalb Co., GA in the 1850 census, then moved to AL and show up in Talladega Co in the 1860 census. I haven't been able to find them in the 1870 census, but in the 1880 census they are in DeKalb Co., AL. I cannot prove that the Leonard in Marshall Co. AL is Reddick and Sarah's son, but in 1860 they do have a child listed as "Len" 3 yrs. old. I am a descendant of Reddick and Sarah's son named Thomas J. Sims. Hope this is helpful. Jill Lewis

Patricia, If the Leonard in Marshall Co., is the son of Reddick P. Sims (and I don't know for sure, he is just the right age and so I think it is possible), Reddick had a son named John, but I think his middle initial was R. He shows up in the 1850 and 1860 census with Reddick. I haven't been able to find Reddick in 1870. The other children of Reddick and Sarah Sims were: Bennett M. (moved to Texas before 1900), Mary who married Willie Barclay and is buried near her parents in Jackson Co., AL), Margaret Sarah, Mattie who married David Reece (moved to OK), Elizabeth A. who married J.C. Reece (moved to TX) and Thomas J. who married Candace Culpepper (also moved to TX). Let me know if you figure out whether the Leonard in Marshall Co. is Reddick's son. There are several Leonard Sims. This is not my Len and John. John is 10 years older than my John Sims. They were born Georgia Ours were born Alabama. Not ours. I checked it out on the 1860 Census for Alabama. He is listed as R.P. Sims with Sarah as his wife. This is a good reason to do lots of research. So close but not it.
